Just as cabinetry is a highly visible part of your kitchen, so, too, are the countertops, and you want to make sure that yours match the style and feel of your kitchen. It is also just as important to choose countertops that meet your needs. For example, certain types of countertops need more maintenance than others, and this kind of factor needs to be a part of your decision. We are here to help with every step of the way, so you won’t have to worry about being misguided when choosing the countertops for your new kitchen.

Overview of Kitchen Countertop Installation

Installing any kind of kitchen countertop is a process, and one that should only be handled by trained experts, like the ones from Alpha 1 Builders. Here is a general overview of the steps of kitchen counter installation:

  • Measure perfectly

there is nothing more frustrating than have a countertop cut in the wrong size. Our experts will measure multiple times to ensure that your countertops are cut correctly.

  • Prepare the area for installation

the area where your countertops are going needs to be fully ready for installation or else there can be problems both during and after the install. If there are old countertops still in your kitchen, they’ll need to be removed. The plumbing fixtures will need to be temporarily disconnected and the appliances pulled out.

  • Plywood and adhesive

once the area is prepped for installation, plywood will be installed for the counters to rest on; adhesive will be applied to the top of the plywood to hold the new counters in place.

  • Fillers, backsplashes

if your countertop comes in several pieces, or your kitchen is getting a backsplash, a filler or sealant will be applied to the seams and colored to match the counter material.

When it comes to kitchen countertop installation, repair or replacement, the Alpha 1 Builders pros are the ones to call!

Common Types of Countertops

We talked above about your options for countertops, and here are some of the common ones our experts deal with:

Marble: marble is a beautiful type of stone to use in a kitchen, but it does have two challenges: first, it is one of the most expensive types of material to use for countertops and second, it is porous, so it will stain. Sealant is required annually to stop your marble from staining, so there is maintenance to do with this kind of counter.

Quartz: quartz is an engineered solid surface. Color is added during the manufacturing process, so if you are looking for a big pop of color to come from your countertops, quartz may be the right choice for you.

Corian: Corian is a brand name for solid surface material created by the DuPont company. When you use Corian, it is installed as a single piece, so it is imperative that all measurements are exact. There are over 100 colors of Corian available, providing homeowners with a wide palette from which to choose.

Granite: granite is one of the most popular countertops around. Granite stands up very well to wear and tear and is very heat resistant. It can get very expensive, however, and certain types of granite may need sealing.

Tile: using tile for your countertop can add wonderful texture to your kitchen as well as a range of colors. Tiles can chip and break, so this something to keep in mind if you want to use tile for your kitchen countertops.
